The Callisto Protocol will hit PlayStation 4 and 5 on Dec. 2 of this year, with releases on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC yet to be set, Striking Distance Studios and Krafton announced Thursday.
Striking Distance Studios is led by CEO Glen Schofield, co-creator of the Dead Space series, and The Callisto Protocol serves as a spiritual successor to those games. The story, set in the year 2320, follows Jacob Lee, a cargo ship pilot trapped in a prison on Jupiter's dead moon Callisto when a mysterious outbreak takes place.
The Callisto Protocol Release Date Set for December
"As a game director, there's nothing more satisfying than taking players on a terrifying ride that stays with them long after they've put the controller down," Schofield said in a statement. "Survival horror games have been my passion for decades, and I’m excited to take advantage of the latest consoles to take the genre to terrifying new places when we ship The Callisto Protocol later this year."
"The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game, so players should feel helpless," Schofield wrote in a post on the PlayStation Blog. "Jacob isn't a soldier, and every encounter is a life and death struggle. Ammo, health, and weapons are precious, and players will need to scour Black Iron for any advantage they can find."
Pre-orders for the game are now open.
