Ubisoft will strive to provide launch day play on both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

The goal of launch day releases for the game for both next generation consoles was reported to Windows Central by game director Leroy Athanassof.

"Why I can't give you a [release] date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles," Athanassof told Windows Central. "What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it's up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch."

The multiplayer shooter will also offer cross-generational support, meaning those playing Rainbow Six Siege on a PlayStation 4 will be able to play and matchmake with those playing on a PlayStation 5, for example.

Athanassof also said that full cross-play is in the works for Rainbow Six Siege as well. He admits though, that such compatibility is ultimately up to Microsoft and Sony.

"We would love to be fully cross-play — have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players," Athanassof said. "We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it's a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It's just a matter of time before it happens."

Rainbow Six Siege is one of Ubisoft's most well-supported titles, with multiple updates and events planned for the year ahead, as shared Sunday in its Year 5 Dev Diary and Roadmap.
