Valheim Controller Support: Is There Any?
By Jack O'Dwyer
Does Valheim have any controller support or was that too much for the Allfather to manage?
Nothing is better than kicking off your shoes, taking a seat on your favorite chair, and spending a few hours with a controller in your lap. Now, you can enjoy that feeling with the latest survival title to hit Steam, Valheim.
Well, at least some of you.
Valheim Controller Support
Yes, Valheim does support gameplay with a controller. While Steam lists this as "partial" support on the game's page in the store, players have reported no issues in translation and seamless input.
On a post in Reddit's official Valheim subreddit board, users replied with their own affirming anecdotes regarding controller play.
"I've been using a 360 controller and it works very well. Not janky or anything," wrote user Leptosoul.
Another user, XathiasTV, wrote, "Yes. It’s enabled by default and you should have no issues!"
However, some may not be so lucky. Among the success stories, an overwhelming amount of PlayStation 4 and 5 controller users relayed that they couldn't access the controls at all—despite being properly synced with every other game. This could be remedied using Rayochan7's linked DS4Windows program from GitHub. Players should be warned that even this comes with varying levels of success.
Valheim is currently available in Early Access on Steam for $19.99 USD exclusively on Windows PCs.
