Valorant Developer Reveals Upcoming Ability and Cosmetic Changes to Omen
By Chaz Frazer
While players in the Valorant beta are still figuring out team strategy, as well as the ins-and-outs of individual Agents, Riot Games is already planning to make some moves to the Shadowy enigma, Omen.
Revealed April 24 during a live stream, Valorant Lead Character Designer Ryan “RiotMorello” Scott told viewers that Omen would be receiving some changes and tweaks - already tested by Riot Games and looking to launch within the next few weeks.
Omen sports abilities which let him create smoke to blind his enemies, and teleport across the map to surprise the enemy team. This toolkit makes him an excellent scout for a team to collect intel.
Cosmetic Changes
The first and most readily obvious change will be Omen’s character model. When asked by a viewer if Omen will be getting a visual update, RiotMorello responded with:
“A little bit, a small visual update. I’m not going to say much about it, but we’re going to improve his experience and visuals a little bit.”
Currently, with no face under the hood, simply two menacing angled eyes, Omen’s model will be updated to reflect three vertical lines running down his 'face' underneath the hood. Speaking on the change to Omen’s threads, RiotMorello noted:
“You're going to see that three Wolverine scratches, that's his face, that's what he's going to look like.."
Abilities Overhaul
Omen’s gameplay and ability changes will be more focused on consistency and effect, rather than any kind of large overhaul to his skillset.
“We’re not going to change what his kit does; we’re going to do some more work on the skills themselves…”
Omen’s targeting with the Smoke/Blind ability will be improved as it has a narrow range of effect, while his Ultimate "Paranoia" will be seeing animation and graphical changes moving forward.
Expect these new changes for Omen to go live during the Valorant beta in the coming weeks.
