Valve Corporation has filed a lawsuit against Signapore-based Dota 2 tournament organizer GESC for failing to pay talent from two Minors, Valve told Dot Esports on Friday.
An open letter from a group of teams, players, talents and agencies, published in October 2018, alleges GESC owes around $750,000 to those parties for appearances at the GESC Indonesia and GESC Thailand Dota events.
The events in question took place in March and May of 2018. Both featured top-level teams, including Evil Geniuses, Natus Vincere and Fnatic among others. Teams stood to earne $300,00 in prize money on top of qualification points for The International 2018.
Valve vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi says Valve filed the lawsuit April 8, 2019, in the High Court of the Republic of Singapore. The publisher has also discontinued its partnership with GESC.
"Our agreements with tournament operators require timely payment to participants," Lombardi said.
"When operators fail to meet those requirements, we follow up."
