Wave hello to the new 2019 Overwatch Summer Games skin for Hanzo. Wave Hanzo is one of seven new skins available to players during this year's summer event.

With his new skin design, Hanzo harkens back to some legendary Japanese cultural cornerstones.

Wave Hanzo Skin Makes a Splash

The most important thing to note here are Hanzo's swim shorts. If you look closely, you'll notice a design similar to that of Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa"—arguably one of the most famous pieces of Japanese artwork produced in the early 1800s. This piece is also simply called "The Wave," hence the skin's title.

It appears that Hanzo's tattoo has changed, too. He now sports a koi fish instead of his trademark dragon. Koi are known to be symbolic of good fortune, prosperity and strength in spite of adversity. They are one of the symbols deeply tied to Japan's cultural image.

Wave Hanzo, alongside his brother Kendoka Genji, Surf 'N' Splash Torbjörn, Lúcioball Wrecking Ball, American Reaper, Bundesadler Reinhardt and Zhongguo Mei can be acquired during the Summer Games event running now through Aug 5.
