What is Siphon in Fortnite?
What is siphon in Fortnite? The mechanic has variously been applied to Limited Time Modes, Arena modes and the main Fortnite play experience, and each has since different variations on the same thing. Here's what you need to know about siphoning in Fortnite.
What is Siphon in Fortnite?
Siphoning is the name used to describe the Fortnite mechanic in which players gain health and shield whenever they kill an enemy. Depending on game mode, it can heal from 25 to 50 health, with any extra turning into shields instead.
Epic Games first introduced siphoning in the Siphon LTM released Dec. 20 during the 14 Days of Fortnite event. The mechanic was then added to all playlists in Fortnite Patch 7.40, only to remove it in Patch 8.20 because it encouraged what Epic Games saw as an unhealthy level of aggressive gameplay.
Siphoning remains in competitive game modes, but is no longer present in all default playlists. This has frustrated many players and streamers who saw the mechanic as a huge improvement, if not a downright necessity.
For now, Epic Games remains unmoved on the issue, leaving siphoning out of its flagship game mode.
