The Great League is one of the three leagues in Pokemon GO Trainer Battles, and it's the league most suited for new trainers and Pokemon with lower maximum CP.

In the GO Battle League, trainers form a party of three Pokemon and face off against other trainers in intense Pokemon battles. Fighting your way up the ranks is a great way to earn rewards, including encounters with rare Pokemon. If you're new to Pokemon GO Trainer Battles, the Great League is the place to start.

What is the Great League in Pokemon GO?

In the Great League, players can only battle using Pokemon with a CP of 1,500 or lower. This means Pokemon with lower maximum CP, such as Azumarill and Altaria, have their chance to shine.

Newer trainers who are at lower levels will be able to battle against opponents of a similar CP in this league. It's a great way to test the waters, even with relatively weak Pokemon. Once you've gained enough experience, you can move on to the Ultra League, which has a maximum CP limit of 2,500, and the Master League, which has no maximum CP limit.

Typically, GO Battle League seasons rotate between the three leagues, featuring only one at a time, so trainers will need to keep changing their strategy and taking a variety of eligible Pokemon into battle. During GO Battle League Season 8, these are the times when the Great League will be featured:

  • From Monday, May 31, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. to Monday, June 14, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. ET
