An increased trade range can be an invaluable bonus in Pokemon GO—especially if trainers have close friends who may not live within an easy distance. Being able to trade freely with others not only allows access to a greater opportunity to complete the full PokeDex, but also potentially forge better relationships with the local trainer community.

Plus, those region exclusives certainly don't hurt.

Increased Trade Range Pokemon GO

There have only been a few instances of increased trade range in Pokemon GO. The most recent of these was during the Lunar New Year event in early February 2021. From there, trainers were able to enjoy an increased range of approximately 25 mi (40 km) until March 1. The previous maximum was around 100 m or 330 ft.

Since then, however, there has been no word on another increased trade range event.

For those unaware, trading unlocks for all trainers at level 10. This function between trainers requires Stardust according to the trainers' friend level and whether or not the Pokemon in question is registered in their PokeDex. The higher the friendship, the less taxing the trade. Having the Pokemon already registered cuts down the stardust significantly.

Of course, there are still limits to this. Certain Pokemon cannot be traded such as fainted Pokemon, those still guarding gyms, those designated as the current buddy, Shadow Pokemon, Mythical Pokemon, and—unsurprisingly—eggs.
