Why are there fireworks in Pokémon GO?

On. Nov. 5 around 10 a.m. Local Time, a lot of players were reporting that there were fireworks in Pokémon GO. While cool, it seems a lot of those trainers didn't know what they were there for. Here's a breakdown of what the fireworks are for in Pokémon GO.

Why Are There Fireworks in Pokémon GO?

From Friday, Nov. 5, to Sunday, Nov. 14, Niantic has been inviting trainers to celebrate light overcoming darkness with an all-new event called the Festival of Lights.

Pokémon GO's Festival of Lights is a Diwali-inspired event where players are encouraged to rediscover and strengthen bonds with all those around them.

In addition to the event also bringing with it the debut of the electric and fairy-type Pokémon, Dedenne, as well as some extra bonuses for those in India, Niantic also added fireworks in-game to celebrate the occasion.

"The Festival of Lights deserves a grand display," Niantic wrote in a blog post, "so you’ll be able to enjoy fireworks in Pokémon GO during the first few days of the event as Trainers around the world celebrate the festival of Diwali."

This year, Diwali began on Nov. 4 and is set to end on Nov. 10. Around that time, the fireworks will likely no longer appear in Pokémon GO.

November appears to be another promising month for Pokémon GO with three other planned events on the way.

Similar to last year's first-ever Day of the Dead special event for trainers in Latin America, Pokémon GO will be hosting a Día de Muertos special event for trainers around the world from Monday, Nov. 1, to Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Pokémon GO will also be having a Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Celebration Event to commemorate the launch of the upcoming titles from Tuesday, Nov. 16, to Sunday, Nov. 21.

Lastly, the Season of Mischief will reportedly close out with an "epic" event that has yet to be revealed. From Friday, Nov. 26, to Monday, Nov. 29, trainers who completed the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research story will be able to unlock a Special Research story where they will have an opportunity to "learn more" about Hoopa.
