Fans of IO Interactive's (IOI) flagship Hitman franchise are concerned about whether Hitman 3 will have multiplayer.

IOI's popular Hitman series has made waves as a thrilling tale of one master assassin and his rise in skill and prominence. Originally released on Nov. 21, 2000—for the PlayStation 2, "OG" Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube—the franchise has only grown with now three main titles under its belt, five adjacent, and two major films. It only follows that such a large name would warrant an equally sizable fan base.

What better way to show off your Hitman pride than duking it out with others?

Will Hitman 3 Have Multiplayer?

Unfortunately, no. Hitman 3 will not have multiplayer. According to a statement made by IOI in August 2020, the company planned to get rid of the well-known 1v1 Ghost mode from Hitman 2. The servers used to maintain Ghost mode were set to close by the end of that month, Aug. 31, 2020, much to the disappointment of many who enjoyed it.

Since then, there has been no word on a possible multiplayer replacement, competitive or otherwise, heading into its latest title. However, there is an online leaderboard where assassins can compete for points and rise to the top with custom contracts and more.

Hitman 3 is meant to be a capstone on the story—so, while multiplayer may be out, other modes have returned. Elusive mode will be featured for those willing to test their skills and Sniper mode for those looking to test their aim.

Interested players can still purchase Hitman 3 in its pre-order state before the game's official release on Jan. 20.
