Will Pokémon UNITE have a beta?

After initially being revealed a year ago during a Pokémon Presents broadcast as the franchise's surprise move into the Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) space, the release date and details surrounding The Pokémon Company's Pokémon UNITE has remained a hot topic in the gaming world as the title is set to fully launch on the Nintendo Switch next month.

Here's the latest for players anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get an early taste of what Pokémon UNITE has in store.

Will Pokemon Unite Have a Beta?

The Pokémon UNITE pre-launch beta test is officially underway in Japan and ends on Saturday, July 26.

Thankfully, since Nintendo Switches are not region-locked, players in any region can set up a Japanese account on their Switch and gain access to the beta via Japan’s eShop. Keep in mind, however, that both the eShop and the Pokémon UNITE pre-launch beta itself will be in Japanese.

Here are the steps you need to download the Pokémon UNITE beta test.

  1. Go to accounts.nintendo.com and set up a new Nintendo Account. The set up process is standard procedure, except you must set Japan as your country/region of residence.
  2. Link the new Japanese Nintendo Account to a new Nintendo Switch profile by going to System Settings, then Users, then Add User. A confirmation code will be sent to the email address used to set up the Japanese Nintendo Account.
  3. After inputting the code into the Switch, log in to the new profile and access the Japanese eShop.
  4. Once in the Japanese eShop, simply find and download the beta test.
