Will there be a BlizzCon 2021?
Fans of Blizzard Entertainment have been awaiting news of the annual video game convention, BlizzCon, ever since it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Unfortunately, according to the announcement made recently by Blizzard, fans should not look forward to a BlizzCon 2021.
Will There Be a BlizzCon 2021?
Saralyn Smith, Executive Producer of BlizzCon, announced yesterday that BlizzCon 2021 is canceled due to the pandemic like last year's BlizzCon 2020.
"Building an in-person BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that takes many months of preparation—not just for us, but also for the many talented production partners, esports pros, hosts, entertainers, artists, and other collaborators we team up with locally and globally to put all of the pieces together," she stated. "The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to properly move forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we’re now past the point where we’d be able to develop the kind of event we’d want to create for you in November."
Though this news is disappointing, Smith added that there will instead be a global event hosted in early 2022. The event is expected to be a hybrid of "smaller in-person gatherings", and an online show like the recent BlizzConline, which occurred in February 2021 as a replacement for BlizzCon 2020. More information is to be revealed in the future.
Fans of Blizzard can still look forward to the content announced during BlizzConline this year, including the Diablo 2: Resurrected remaster, which is coming to PC and consoles in 2021, a new core set in Hearthstone, updates regarding Overwatch 2, and more.
