A recent Warzone update seems to be teasing the addition of zombies to the Call of Duty battle royale.
Warzone players have been finding all sorts of easter eggs and references to the classic Call of Duty game mode throughout Verdansk. The zombies aren't even the normal kind, they seem to be the Spaceland Zombies from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Zombies Teased for Call of Duty: Warzone
Modern Warfare 2019 does not feature zombies in any capacity, so it's a surprise to see references to the Black Ops series mainstay suddenly in Warzone. It's even more of a surprise to see Spaceland zombies at that.
The zombies game mode is a trademark of the Black Ops series. The teasers could also be pointing to the rumored 2020 Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, which is still set to release this year.
The zombie references could simply just be a fun callback to previous games, but these teasers seem to be more substantial than other series references in Warzone. They were recently added, and most likely will amount to something coming soon.
If we were to get a separate zombies mode, it would most likely come with the next game. Warzone would most likely have some zombies mode as well, perhaps as a limited-time mode.
With Black Ops easter eggs present in what is technically a Modern Warfare game mode, it seems unlikely that Warzone will be phased out when the next main series game releases.
If not for a new game, the zombies references may be pointing to an upcoming in-game event.
