Battlefield 6: ‘Secure Boot is not enabled’ PC solutions and fixes
By Dave Aubrey

Prospective Battlefield 6 closed beta players are running into a unique PC error when trying to launch the closed beta client: “Secure Boot is not enabled.” Secure Boot is required by Battlefield 6 and EA in order for the game’s anti-cheat system to operate correctly, and the game will not start up without it enabled. EA has given more details on the EA website.
In this guide we’ll be explaining how to activate Secure Boot on your Windows PC, what to do if Secure Boot is enabled but you’re still experiencing issues, and what devices you can expect to encounter and overcome with PC handhelds like the Steam Deck. Make sure to read our full Battlefield 6 hands-on preview to get ready for the game.
Battlefield 6 Secure Boot breakdown
How to check if Secure Boot is enabled
Before accessing your BIOS, you can check is Secure Boot is enabled on your PC by opening the System Information panel. Under ‘System Summary’, you should find the Item ‘Secure Boot State’ and the Value set to Off or On.
If your Secure Boot State Value is set to Off, then you will need to activate Secure Boot via the BIOS. If your Value is set to On but you’re still having problems launching Battlefield 6, you may need to disable it in the BIOS, restart your PC, and then enable it again.
How to access your PC BIOS
Before getting started, please be aware that accessing the BIOS on your PC gives you access to functions that can change the way your PC operates, and selecting the wrong feature may “break” your PC. Only change options in your PC BIOS if you’re aware of the repercussions.
On a Windows 10 or 11 PC you can access the BIOS by booting your PC and holding the ‘Delete’ key on start up.
How to enable Secure Boot on your PC
The layout of your BIOS itself will vary drastically depending on your motherboard and BIOS version.
Look for an ‘Advanced Mode’ if it is available, and you should find something like ‘Secure Boot Control’ under the Boot or Security settings menu. Once you find the Secure Boot option, ensure it is enabled.
What to do if Secure Boot is already enabled?
Check your Secure Boot state in System Information first. If your Value is set to On but you’re still having problems launching Battlefield 6, you may need to disable it in the BIOS, restart your PC, and then enable it again.
Will Battlefield 6 run on Steam Deck or other PC handhelds?
Secure Boot is a Windows-specific function right now, so a stock Steam Deck running Steam OS will not be able to play Battlefield 6, but installing Windows or using a Windows-based PC handheld should run Battlefield 6 fine, assuming the game isn’t too demanding.
