How long to beat Death Stranding 2

Here's how long you can expect to spend in Death Stranding 2's Australia.

Hideo Kojima’s latest masterpiece is out now for early access players, and it won’t be long before it launches for everybody, and fans of the first game can probably (correctly) surmise that it’s quite a hefty experience. We’ve put dozens and dozens of hours into the game, having completed just about everything there is to see in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach — and we still can’t be sure we’ve seen absolutely everything. 

To help you know how much time to budget for Death Stranding 2, we’ve put together this guide to how long it takes to beat the game, including runtime for both the story and a full 100% playthrough. 

How long is Death Stranding 2? 

Here’s how long it takes to beat Death Stranding 2, depending on your playstyle: 

  • Rushed playthrough: 30-40 hours 
  • Average main story playthrough: 45-50 hours 
  • Completionist playthrough: 100-120+ hours 

Taking the fastest route through Death Stranding 2’s main story, ignoring all side content, could see you rolling credits after about 30 hours, give or take a few depending on your difficulty and skill level. If you were to skip all the cutscenes we think you could probably cut that down to a brisk 20 hours, but the story is half the reason to play so we’re not sure why you’d want to do that. 

The average playthrough would consist of the main story and a fairly decent chunk of side quests and activities. There are a lot of these, and completing all of them is a huge investment, so we’d expect most players would spend a bit of time between big story beats doing extra stuff before moving on. This should see you finishing the game in about 50 hours or so, again give or take a few. 

A full completionist run is quite a feat indeed. There are dozens of bunkers and facilities to level up your connection with, each of which requires a host of quests to complete and cargo to collect. There’s also a fair amount of content that only unlocks after you complete the main game, so finishing absolutely everything in Death Stranding 2 will see you spending easily 100 hours or more with the game.
