Death Stranding 2 The Inventor: How to cross the tar and complete a delivery
By Dave Aubrey

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is filled with facilities to connect to the Chiral Network, and a bunch of them are not necessary for progression. Some of these can be accessed by completing Sub-Orders, while others can only be first accessed by delivering Lost Cargo. The Inventor luckily tends to have loads of Lost Cargo bound for him just outside his island behind the Mine North of F1, but getting across the tar to get to his island is another matter.
In this guide we’re breaking down everything you need to know to unlock The Inventor in Death Stranding 2.
How to deliver to The Inventor
How to find The Inventor’s Lost Cargo – DS2
If you explore behind the Mine North of F1 you’re almost guaranteed to find Lost Cargo bound for The Inventor. If you’re struggling to find some, make sure you’re regularly scanning with your Odradek, which will highlight Lost Cargo and where it should go.
This is the easy part, as getting to The Inventor is the real challenge.
How to cross the tar to reach The Inventor – DS2
The Inventor’s island is surrounded by tar, and the tough part of delivering to him is just getting across it. Luckily, you can cross the tar by either driving or walking, you just need to know where to drive.
If you scan the shoreline with your Odradek you should be able to highlight a portion of the tar that isn’t deep. Red triangles are the deep end, but yellow squares are shallow. Using this you should be able to highlight a path toward The Inventor without sinking.
You should keep in mind that moving through the tar will drain your batteries, your stamina, and even ruin your shoes, so you should make sure you’re fully equipped to handle that challenge before you dive in.
Alternatively, you can use the monorail. You can’t jump off to the island while using a zipline between monorail terminals, but if you go to the Mine North of F1 you can chart a course over The Inventor’s island and simply jump off when you’re over it. You won’t take damage from jumping, but you can only take the cargo you have on your back, and you’ll still need to cross the tar to get off the island.
