Elden Ring Nightreign Wylder guide – how to best use Wylder’s abilities and stats

Here's how to get the most use out of Wylder, Elden Ring Nightreign's all-rounder
FromSoftware

Wylder is Elden Ring Nightreign’s most versatile character. With high stats across the board, he’s able to use anything you put in his hands, though a relatively low FP pool and his character abilities mean he’s best-suited as a close-range powerhouse who can chase down foes and deal big damage.

Wylder attributes breakdown – ER Nightreign

A character’s attributes tell you two things: what their starting stats will be in terms of health, stamina, magic pool, and strength, and what weapons they’re most comfortable with. The highest possible stat is an S, followed by A, B, C, D, and E as the lowest.

Here’s what each stat means:

  • HP - How large your health pool is.
  • FP - How large your mana pool is.
  • Stamina - How large your stamina gauge is.
  • Strength - How much physical damage you can deal, scaling with colossal weapons.
  • Dexterity - Proficiency with daggers, bows, katanas, and other fast weapons.
  • Intelligence - Your magical potency, impacting the power of sorceries. Scales well with weapons such as the Moonveil katana and Fallingstar Beast Jaw.
  • Faith - How effective your healing and holy incantations are. Scales with weapons such as Golden Epitaph and Erdtree Greatbow.
  • Arcane - Holy damage and death blight negation. Increases blood loss buildup for bleeding weapons. Scales with weapons such as Serpent Bow and Rivers of Blood.

Here are Wylder’s attributes:

  • HP - A
  • FP - C
  • Stamina - B
  • Strength - A
  • Dexterity - B
  • Intelligence - C
  • Faith - C
  • Arcane - C

Each Nightreign character also has two active abilities and one passive ability. These abilities can also be changed with certain relics, making them more potent. Here are Wylder’s:

Passive: Sixth Sense

This ability lets Wylder survive a killing blow once and resets every time you visit a site of Grace.

Character Skill: Claw Shot

A grappling hook that pulls small enemies towards you or pulls you towards big enemies. Can also be used on the ground for quick escapes or to close in on an agile enemy. Each time you latch an enemy with it, there’s a chance to break their poise, opening them up to a big flurry of attacks. You can hold the activation buttons down to manually aim for traversal.

Ultimate Art: Onslaught Stake

A powerful close-range explosive attack, triggered by jamming a stake into an enemy. Ultimate arts keep you safe from damage while in use so it’s often best to use them as a way to escape an enemy attack you can’t dodge. Onslaught Stake can also be held down, which creates a much larger, more powerful explosion. The only advantage of doing the non-charged version is it launches you back and gives you some distance from the enemy, but this feels redundant because you can’t be hurt while charging the attack anyway. There’s a relic you can get from random drops that makes the charged ultimate leave behind a pool of fire, making it even more deadly and efficient.

Wylder’s best weapons – ER Nightreign

Wylder is capable of wielding pretty much anything you get your hands on, but I found he’s most useful with a greatsword in his hands. He does big poise damage because of his high strength and his large stamina pool means you can keep a combo going. He also has a very strong jump attack if you’re using a big sword. Players who prefer dodging can equip a large sword in each hand and do combination strikes, but he’s also the best character if you’re good at parrying, thanks to starting with a buckler shield.
