If you’re trying to take a competitive shooter seriously on PS5, then the force-feedback in the DualSense’s adaptive triggers can get in the way. If you can’t afford to spring for a fancy controller with short trigger stops, then turning off the adaptive triggers is the fastest way to make competitive FPS games easier to play. By default, the force-feedback is certainly immersive, but can lead to repetitive strain and can have you be less performant in multiplayer matches.

In this guide we’re quickly breaking down how to disable the adaptive triggers on the PS5 DualSense controller. This is useful for all shooters, but especially competitive ones like Battlefield 6, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and more.

Be aware that turning off adaptive triggers will disable them for all games, and you will have to activate them again for any games you may want to experience them with.

  • Press the PS button on the DualSense controller.
  • Scroll over to Accessories.
  • Select your controller.
  • Select Controller Settings.
  • Change Trigger Effect Intensity to your desired setting (Strong, Medium, Weak, Off).

That’s all you need to do to enjoy FPS games and shooters on PS5 without adaptive triggers getting in the way.
