Umamusume Taurus Cup guide: Best stats and skills for the event

Here are some tips on increasing your victory chances in Champions Meeting.
Cygames

The Champions Meeting mode is coming to Umamusume with its first event – Taurus Cup – starting in a couple of days. In these PvP races, players send out teams of three racers and compete against trios fielded by other trainers in a winner-takes-all format.

Even though whales – players heavily investing real money into the game – will certainly have the edge over everyone else in these races, it’s still worth signing up and competing, because everyone gets at least some rewards for taking part.

While you might not stand a chance against everyone, there are plenty of things you can do to increase your chances of achieving a good result without grabbing your wallet — the tips in this Umamusume Taurus Cup guide will help you maximize your odds.

Umamusume Taurus Cup: best stats

Speed, Stamina, and Power – in that order – are your absolute priorities when building a runner to participate in Taurus Cup. Getting between 1,200 and 1,000 Speed is a great goal in Graded Races, the higher difficulty mode, for which you should have between 1,000 and 800 Stamina.

Power can be a little under Stamina, while you’ll want around 300 to 400 Guts and 400 to 500 Wit.

This looks a little different from the ideal stat distribution in career mode, but there’s a reason for that, which we’ll touch on later in the team comp section.

Umamusume Taurus Cup: best skills

Since all Taurus Cup races take place at the same conditions – Tokyo (Turf), Medium (2,400m), Left, Spring, Sunny, Firm – green skills can help you by passively filling any holes in your stats.

Left-Handed (Speed), Spring Runner (Speed), Tokyo Racecourse (Stamina), Standard Distance (Stamina), Firm Conditions (Power), and Sunny Days (Guts) have an effect on every race in this competition, so they’re a great use of any extra skill points you might have left after a campaign.

Taurus Cup has three straights, four corners, three up-hill, and one down-hill section, all of which can be exploited by certain skills. Here’s a list of important abilities for this race:

  • Professor of Curvature / Corner Adept
  • Swinging Maestro / Corner Recovery
  • Corner Connoisseur / Corner Acceleration
  • Rushing Gale / Straightaway Acceleration
  • Beeline Burst / Straightaway Adept
  • Breath of Fresh Air / Straightaway Recovery
  • Homestretch Haste
  • Nimble Navigator
  • Highlander

Please keep in mind that similar skills exist for particular race strategies and the Medium race distance as well, so there are plenty of options to choose from.

Umamusume Taurus Cup: team comp

While it’s perfectly viable to send your three fastest runners into the race in order to win, there is some room for tactical shenanigans in this mode in the form of debuffers — Umamusume with a lot of red skills. A notable example of this is Nice Nature, who gets access to a lot of debuffs just from her natural kit.

If you have a strong debuffer on your roster, you could send her to accompany your two regular competitors in order to slow down and hinder the competition, making it easier for your runners to claim victory.

A debuff-focused character will want lots of red skills and a high Wit stat (we’re talking ~1,000) to maximize skill trigger chances. Skills like Dominator, Tether, Mystifying Murmur, All-Seeing Eyes, Hesitant, Subdued, and Frenzied are all useful in weakening your opponents by slowing them or quickly depleting their Stamina.

This is also the reason why you’ll want to increase your Stamina more than in your career runs — having a safety belt of extra Stamina safeguards your Umamusume from being knocked out by opposing debuffers.

Umamusume Taurus Cup: aptitudes

Upgrading your runners’ aptitudes for the race-relevant distances and ground types is definitely something you should keep in mind. For Taurus Cup, you will want S-rank aptitudes in Turf and Medium.

Higher aptitudes in these categories will cause your Umamusume to be more efficient with their stats, allowing them to bring their full strength to bear without any penalties.

Keep these tips in mind as you play through careers and build strong Umamusume for Taurus Cup and you’ll compete for victories soon enough.
