Sad Socket and Hooded Horse’s 9 Kings is set to get much bigger before the year is out: The Early Access roadmap for the roguelite auto-battler with city-builder elements revealed that its two missing monarchs will arrive relatively soon, one in July and one in Q3 2025. They will get the number of playable characters up to what the game’s title promises.

The eighth king appears to be a bearded man with a dragon looming in the background, while the ninth king wears a top hat and prominently features clocks on their face and scepter.

Ahead of their arrival, however, Sad Socket will revamp the game’s meta progression and perk system to provide a bit more strategic depth and replayability, which will include the ability to get more than nine levels with each monarch.

Between major patches, the Brazilian developer intends to add smaller bits of content, such as new decrees, perks, and rainbow cards as well as achievements and endless mode changes.

Entirely new game modes can be expected towards the end of the year, when all the nine kings are in the game.

Meanwhile, Hooded Horse had another milestone for 9 Kings to announce: The title surpassed 400,000 sales now and is therefore scratching at the half-a-million mark at this point — a very impressive result for the indie title.
