Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is set to continue to explore Antiquity with the Chronicles: Alexander the Great DLC, which will be released on October 14, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Teased at the end of the previous Chronicles DLC and then again ahead of Gamescom 2025, the expansion will allow players to follow in the footsteps of the great conqueror in a campaign spanning 18 missions and featuring a customizable campaign army. The DLC will introduce the Macedonians, Thracians, and Puru as playable factions. Just like the past Chronicles factions, they can’t be used in ranked matchmaking, but are available for custom games.

The Macedonians use their iconic hammer-and-anvil tactics based on pike phalanxes and elite cavalry, while the Thracians generate gold from combat thanks to their raiding prowess. Based in India, the Puru can unleash powerful elephants and ranged units.

Players will be able to customize their army over the course of the campaign, reflecting the way Alexander’s army grew more diverse the further East he went, incorporating conquered peoples into his forces. 16 bonus units, including Achaemenid chariots and Puru elephants, as well as a quartet of technologies can be unlocked this way.

Cutscenes will be presented in the style of the famous Alexander mosaic from Italy, which is a neat little detail.
