Battlefield 6 launches with big numbers and little outrage, but map sizes remain a sore point

EA managed a robust Battlefield launch, but there’s plenty of changes players want to see.

Battlefield 6 continues to be an outlier among the series’ most recent releases, managing to get off the ground without any major controversies or a flood of negative reviews from users. There were issues for people trying to play via the EA App, but a quick reaction and compensation for affected players kept things from spiraling out of control.

According to SteamDB, the game stands at a positive user rating of 75% from more than 62,000 reviews, reaching a peak of over 747,000 concurrent users over the weekend — the best result in the history of the franchise on Steam.

But not even BF6 is perfect: Players have plenty of complaints and feedback on changes they’d like to see in coming updates, from bugfixes over menu issues to the biggest point of them all — map sizes.

When players complained about the maps being too small during the open beta test, EA quickly assured the community that the full game would feature plenty of larger battlegrounds… but that turned out to be a bit misleading and users did not get maps on the scale they’d been hoping for.

Aside from issues with the size, which players feel favors infantry play too much over vehicles, variety is another common point of feedback: BF6’s launch map pool feels too samey, visually and in terms of gameplay. This is something that EA will have to address sooner rather than later and perhaps the Season 1 roadmap already holds the solution.

Still, getting top grades for gameplay and performance in today’s environment is no small feat, so the BF6 launch can be counted as a success for DICE and EA. Now it’s all about putting in the work to keep the momentum going.
