There certainly is no sign of oversaturation on the RPG market, as recent releases Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered have sailed past vital milestones in a matter of days.

The French take on JRPGs was able to sell one million copies in just three days since launch — and that’s despite being included in Xbox Game Pass from Day 1, which will have lowered total sales numbers. A very impressive start for Sandfall Games’ turn-based title.

Microsoft and Bethesda’s ‘surprise’ drop of Oblivion Remastered – rumored to be happening all year long – fared equally well, reaching a total of four million players towards the end of its first week. In contrast to Expedition 33’s number these are not pure sales, but include all Game Pass users diving into the game.

Expedition 33 peaked at over 121.000 concurrent players on Steam this past weekend, with the remastered version of Bethesda’s iconic RPG climbing above 216.000 concurrent players.

With Baldur’s Gate 3 recently getting its final update from Larian Studios and a new expansion looming for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, RPGs of all shapes and sizes are waiting for a next playthrough and deliver more than enough incentives for players to give them their time — it’s a good moment to love this genre.
