HoYoverse teases Alice and Varka in new Genshin Impact – Song of the Welkin Moon video

While Genshin Impact 5.7 is poised to contain some massive lore drops and drive forward the main story, HoYoverse is already gearing up for the ambitious next chapter of the game in the region of Nod-Krai, which has been dubbed Song of the Welkin Moon. A new Nod-Krai teaser shown directly after the latest developer livestream revealed some of the pivotal characters of the upcoming arc — and players have been waiting for years to see some of them.
In the teaser, a female voice guides us through some of the important factions that will appear, including the Wild Hunt, the Fatui, and the Knights of Favonius. The narrator appears to be the great witch Alice, who’s best known to players as the mother of Klee and leader of Mondstadt’s powerful Hexenzirkel. We even see what might be the first depiction of her: A woman with light hair, an easygoing smirk, and a big red hat. People are already called her Genshin Impact's The Herta, in reference to a Honkai: Star Rail character with a somewhat similar design.
“If you want to know more about a certain land, you have to ask the people who live there. Yet when faced with too many choices, and no way to decide... perhaps you need a witch's keen eye to give you ‘guidance’,” the video’s description says — and further confirms that it’s the witch who’s talking.
Another highly anticipated character appearing in the teaser is Varka, the Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius. We can see a tall, blonde man with broad shoulders leading a formation towards the end of a cliff.
Earlier on in the video, we get a quick glimpse of an old acquaintance from Sumeru: Dottore, who’s become the highest-ranked Fatui Harbinger following Capitano’s sacrifice in Natlan.
“Nod-Krai… an ever-changing landscape of ruin. A marvel corroded by time,” the narrator says. “In the forest, where the nights were once undisturbed save for a few rays of moonlight, the Wild Hunt’s shadow grows. There are those who bear the name of Frostmoon, living where the silver light shines. Others carry the torch, fending off the darkness and cold with their blades. I hear that the Snowland Fae still yearn for the frosts of old… While the Fatui look to the stars above, trying in vain to seize the false firmament. Then there are the Knights, draped in the west wind, nearing the end of a long and arduous mission. My friends, of course, shan’t be outdone. They will no doubt bring a magical charm to this edge of the world. And just as the stone craves the sculptor’s hand, so does fate await your gaze.”
Song of the Welkin Moon is set to arrive with Genshin Impact 6.0 later this year.
