Genshin Impact named China’s most influential video game ahead of Black Myth Wukong

China’s 2025 Brand Global Communication Conference has named Genshin Impact as the most influential game developed in the country.
The anime open-world RPG from HoYoverse tops the ranking above Black Myth Wukong, Game Science’s immensely successful mythological action RPG from 2024, and Mobile Legends Bang Bang, the hugely popular mobile MOBA. Honkai: Star Rail, another HoYoverse title, is ranked fourth on the list.
HoYoverse itself has been rated to be the seventh-most influential – “influential” here meaning something akin to having high communication power and brand recognition – global brand from China, beating mega corporation Tencent to become the highest-ranked gaming company.
China’s online retailer Temu, tech companies such as Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei, and car manufacturer BYD are leading this list. TikTok owner ByteDance is ranked below HoYoverse and Tencent.
HoYoverse’s games have found massive international followings, but are even stronger in their home country, where the company has essentially founded an entire sub-culture when it comes to games, music, and animation.
Genshin Impact has led the charge on that with its music even getting the United Nations to listen up. Events like the Honkai: Star Rail 2nd Anniversary Concert manage to sell out entire concert halls in cities like Shanghai for several days straight.
Founded in 2011 by a group of university students, the company today maintains operations in Shanghai, Singapore, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul, and Montreal. It recently teased a new game set in its Honkai IP that will have creature collection elements.
