Honkai: Nexus Anima gameplay shows customizable character, minigames
By Marco Wutz

Following the official reveal of Honkai: Nexus Anima, HoYoverse has posted over four minutes of gameplay footage from the upcoming creature-collection auto-chess game.
Players will be able to traverse the game’s overworld in various ways, using Anima to fly, glide, and ride. The map appears to be filled with interactive objects and locations, allowing players to have fun with their Anima companions — a bit like all the little interactions in Infinity Nikki.
There seems to be an abundance of minigames connected to specific Anima as well. The video shows a footrace, a shooting contest, and furniture destruction derby.
Anima roam the world freely and can be captured by defeating them in auto-chess battles — no spherical objects seem to be involved in catching them, so HoYoverse is unlikely to have to deal with any legal shenanigans from Nintendo akin to Pocketpair with Palworld.
Alongside characters that can – presumably – be acquired through the game’s gacha system, a fully customizable protagonist will be available to travel the world as. The video shows pieces of the game’s customization system, allowing users to adjust hairstyles, facial features, and outfits.
In regards to the auto-chess gameplay, players appear to be able to take up to three different characters into each battle to use their inherent abilities to bolster their line-up of Anima. As is usual for the genre, fielding a certain amount of pieces of a specific type unlocks buffs. Like in Zenless Zone Zero’s recent auto-chess event, additional bonuses can be obtained after certain rounds, players choosing between three options. There’s also an item system to bolster Anima.
