MindsEye copies are already out in the wild and the impressions aren’t great

Meanwhile, the game has been pulled from sale in Japan.

IO Interactive’s first foray into publishing could certainly be going better: Physical copies of the upcoming action game MindsEye, which has been developed by Build a Rocket Boy, are out in the wild in some regions of the world and early player impressions are not exactly flattering — so much so that the developers have put out a public statement to emphasize that they have a major release day patch cooking to address technical problems.

But that’s not the only concerning issue for the game at the moment: In Japan, MindsEye seems to have been pulled from sale on the PlayStation Store with users receiving refunds. Currently, the game can’t be purchased on the Japanese PlayStation Store, though users can still put it on their wishlist.

There is speculation that the title might not have passed its review by the ratings board in time. The store page certainly depicts a CERO logo without a completed rating, which usually means that the title is still under review.

The Japanese Xbox Store, on the other hand, shows a completed rating from the IARC and seems to be taking pre-orders still.

Previously, MindsEye made negative press because a Build a Rocket Boy member insinuated that competitors were paying people to spread negative comments about the game. Several of the company’s executives recently left their posts ahead of the MindsEye’s release in a further sign of decreasing confidence in the project.

While MindsEye isn’t shaping up to be the smoothest of releases, at least IO Interactive’s own 007: First Light has been garnering positive attention with its appearance at State of Play.
