If you’ve seen your mobile phone shake with fear earlier today, then it might be because Hotta Studio has shown off some major visual improvements to its upcoming urban open-world RPG, Neverness to Everness. The title is confirmed for mobile devices alongside PC and PS5 and is poised to open its gates for a global beta test soon.

According to Hotta, the brand-new footage showing off the visual upgrades has been recorded in the Containment Test version, i.e. the build players will get their hands on during the test.

Lighting changes throughout the metropolis of Hethereau make for a much better mood than before and it seems like a lot of textures got upgraded as well. Distant landscapes are visible with far more details now than before the improvements, giving the city a lot more personality.

It’s probably the lighting that makes the biggest difference overall, though: Comparing the shots of the car driving through Hethereau at night, the new build transports the feeling of being in an urban environment with supernatural and cyberpunk aspects a lot better. The way the rain now pools in smaller areas of the asphalt, nestling in its imperfections instead of flatly running over everything is a pretty huge upgrade as well.

Naturally, we’ll have to wait and see how the game performs on various platforms and how good Hotta is at optimizing Unreal Engine 5 for each one, but it’s safe to say that NTE is going to be a challenge for mobile devices.

NTE has recently been greenlit for release by Chinese authorities, removing one obstacle between the game and launch.
