Pokémon GO finally sees the light and opens Shadow Raids, Max Battles to remote play

Pokémon GO is finally fixing one of its biggest issues by opening up Shadow Raids and Max Battles to remote players. Remote Shadow Raids will be possible starting on May 13, 2025, at 11am PDT. Although the change takes effect with the start of the Crown Clash: Taken Over event, they will become permanent and remain active following the event.
Additionally, the developers are raising the daily limit on possible Remote Raids from five to ten — a necessity, since Remote Shadow Raids will count towards the limit.
Remote Max Battles will be available starting on May 19, 2025, ahead of the Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day. Like the Shadow Raid changes, the Max Battle adjustments will become permanent additions.
Joining Remote Max Battles will take a Remote Raid Pass and the usual Max Particles cost. Speaking of which: The limit of Max Particles players can store at a time will be increased to 1,500, so by a whopping 50%.
Players joining Max Battles in-person will earn a couple of extra rewards in the future, though, such as additional Premier Balls and XP. This way, offline meet-ups will still be encouraged.
These changes follow after months of complaints and criticism from the community about the game’s policy towards remote play, especially for difficult battles like Shadow Raids and Max Battles. Naturally, fans are ecstatic about finally being listened to.
The only remaining issue pouring some cold water on the hype is that there are no pricing changes to Remote Raid Passes, so it’ll still be a bit costly to enjoy playing from home.
This is not the only measure the developers are taking to ensure the long-term health of the game: Dataminers recently found a new mechanic called Hyper Training in Pokémon GO that could become a major hit.
