An unusual partnership.

Japanese developer Square Enix has teamed up with Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, TBS Television for short, to develop a new video game based on an original IP. The partners haven’t revealed any further details about the project, merely stating that they want to utilize both companies’ strengths and experiences to make it a success and that the game will be available both domestically and internationally.

As its name suggests, Tokyo Broadcasting System Television is mainly a broadcasting company, TBS Television being one of its flagship stations. Internationally renowned game show Takeshi’s Castle is a TBS Television production, to name one example from its catalog.

TBS expanded into video games in 2023 with the foundation of TBS Games, publishing its first title – Nintendo Switch game I am Adventure Boy: Ultimate Escape Island – one year later.

Earlier today, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing Link along with its latest earnings report. The company has posted increased profits despite lower game sales, showing that its strategic shift towards optimization and quality-over-quantity is working.
