Creative Assembly has delayed the release of Tides of Torment, the latest DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3. It was originally supposed to be launched at an undisclosed date in summer. Players will now have to be even more patient, as the release has been moved to “later this year.”

In a statement, the studio explained that the DLC simply didn’t meet the standards previous expansions had set during internal playtesting.

“However, we know it can and so we want to spend more time working on it, reviewing the content, and improving the gameplay experiences that it’s set to bring,” the developer continued. “These changes will likely mean the content we shared in our What's Next videos for Slaanesh and Norsca is no longer accurate. As soon as we know the final shape of those changes, we’ll share them to you directly as part of the final What’s Next video to give you the complete picture on our third faction in this DLC and the changes to the other factions.”

Sea Lord Aislinn has been confirmed as the third Legendary Lord for the DLC, bringing the High Elves with him to join Dechala’s Slaanesh Daemons and Sayl’s Norscans.

CA acknowledged that the year has been a lot slower than expected for Total War: Warhammer fans and that it should do better on the transparency front.

As an olive branch, the company revealed its plans for coming free updates to the game. In July, improvements to siege gameplay will come to public testing. In August, Update 6.3 will make big changes to the Tomb Kings and Lizardmen as part of the ongoing race reworks. Greenskins are getting another pass as well to bring their characters up to modern standards.

In addition, the developer revealed that it’s thinking about how to bring characters into the game that don’t fit its usual DLC pattern. “We’re working out how these would fit with our schedules, but we have a good idea for who the first one could be, and she’s someone near and dear to your blood,” CA teased, possibly referring to Neferata. “Next year, we’ll return with one of the biggest Total War: Warhammer content packs ever created in the trilogy, alongside some free content. You’ll get to see some of this nice and early as part of this year's 25th anniversary showcase.”

The 25th anniversary showcase is also where the next Total War games will be announced.
