Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks gets its first flying vehicle in free update

Deadlier for its pilot than its prey.

Warhammer 40,000 combat racing game Speed Freeks is adding an aerial dimension to its fun and chaotic vehicle battles: A free update has introduced the Deffkopta as a new vehicle option.

Being an Ork contraption, this small single-seater looks like a death trap for its pilot, not wasting any effort on things like armor or, indeed, any sort of hull to protect its inner components. Pilots also have direct access to the flyer’s main weapon system, a front-mounted missile launcher. If one of the projectiles is stuck, you can try to shake it loose with the sword in your other hand — brilliant thinking as always by the Mekboyz.

The update also has two fresh battlefields for the game in store, named Scrap In Da Yard and Deff Gorge. Scrap In Da Yard is a Kill Konvoy map with lots of verticality and a trench that will force people to flex their driving muscles. Deff Gorge is a reworked version of Da Gorge that’s optimized for the Deff Rally mode instead of Kill Konvoy.

Speed Freeks got its full release earlier this year after some time in Early Access, which included a change of its publisher and business model.
