Wukong sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, now in development
By Dave Aubrey

A sequel to 2024’s massively successful Black Myth: Wukong is now in development. Black Myth: Zhong Kui was revealed as the final announcement of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025.
A trailer accompanied the announcement, and showcased Zhong Kui’s design. This mythological character is a god that has the power to confront and consume ghosts and demons.
Though the brief trailer doesn’t give too much away – other than showcasing the admittedly impressive British-inspired dub – we can safely assume Zhong Kui will follow in the footsteps of Wukong, and feature challenging fights against imposing foes. The incredibly large sword we see in the brief trailer is evidence of that.
Black Myth: Wukong was a massive success for developer Game Science, having sold 20 million units in its very first month on the market despite being limited to just PC and PS5. 18 million of those units were sold in just the first two weeks, and it was the most downloaded PS5 game in Japan, Europe, and North America for August 2024.
A sequel only makes sense, and Zhong Kui appears to be both a bold step forward and will hopefully present some brand new gameplay opportunities when compared to Wukong.
Black Myth: Wukong currently sits at a Metascore of 76 on PS5 and 81 on PC. Although it sold incredibly well, reviews highlighted key issues that we hope will be rectified in a sequel.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is likely several years away, but Black Myth: Wukong becomes available for Xbox platforms on August 20.
