5 Best Agents in Valorant August 2021

Valorant's meta is an ever-changing cycle that sees agents go from the top to the very bottom, or vice versa, patch to patch. There will always be a constant debate about which agents are better than others, but some clearly stand out amongst the crowd, especially after the economy changes made to the game in a recent patch. Here are the top five agents in Valorant as of August 2021.

5. Skye

After a recent patch in which Skye's kit was tweaked, most people considered her to have been nerfed. This has ended up being completely untrue, as post changes she has become one of the most consistently used agents in all of Valorant. Her new kit allows her to play off of herself a bit more, allowing for both teamplay and aggression from her flashes. She still has one of the best information gathering kits in the game as well.

4. Viper

The Valorant development team has been trying to make Viper viable since the beta, and they have finally done so. After buffing her patch after patch, Viper has finally entered the conversation with Omen and Astra as a viable controller option. Her Toxic Screen has become one of the best space creating abilities in the game, and in combination with her Poison Cloud and Snakebite, Viper is one of the most useful agents in a post-plant setting.

3. Astra

Valorant's 2nd newest Agent, Astra, burst into the game's meta as soon as she was allowed to be used in competitive play. She was hit harder than a lot of agents when the new economy changes, but she is still undoubtedly the strongest controller in Valorant. Her ability to have full control over the map at any second, and be able to instantly react to action at any point in a round is unmatched. Her smokes are great for taking space, and her Gravity Well is great for both post-plant situations and site takes. She can be overwhelming to deal with for enemy teams, and in a competitive setting, she has become a must-pick on many maps.

2. Jett

Jett being this high should be of no surprise to veteran players of Valorant. The duelist is the mascot of the game and for good reason. Her ability to move around the map in a way no other character can has truly set her apart. Her dash is still one of the best singular abilities in the game, and it is still her free ability. Her ultimate was made to require one more ultimate point before use, but it really isn't impacting the character much at all. She is always going to be the agent most synonymous with the Operator and as long as that sniper is as important in Valorant as it is, Jett will be as well.

1. Sova

Jett may be the most popular character in Valorant, but she does not take the number one spot on this list. That honor goes to the Russian archer himself. Sova is the best agent in Valorant, due to his versatility and information gathering. On every map but Split, Sova is a near must-pick. According to thespike.gg, he was the most picked agent in the most recent VCT qualifier for NA, and for good reason. His Recon Bolt is the best information-gathering ability in the game, and his Owl Drone is not far behind in that aspect. To follow that, he has the ability to win entire rounds on offense in post-plant situations without ever having to take gunfights. Both his Shock Bolt and his Ultimate allow him to play in a safe position and wait for the enemy team to try and defuse the bomb.
