Top laners in League of Legends often find themselves isolated from the action on Summoner's Rift, but in the end, they play a critical role. In order for teams to succeed, these champions must excel in 1v1 combat and offer split-pushing capabilities.

Patch 11.7 introduced a variety of champion balance changes to League of Legends. Although 18 champions received either buffs or nerfs, the latest update will most likely not have a great impact on the current top lane meta. With that in mind, here are the worst top laners in League of Legends Patch 11.7.

5 Worst Top Laners in League of Legends Patch 11.7

Ryze

Although Ryze has the potential to offer good split pushing or team fighting, he remains one of the poorest picks in the current meta. The AP champion is quite difficult to master, especially when it comes to learning his combos and when to use them. Players must also excel at positioning to maximize his damage output. Another downside is that Ryze's ultimate, while occasionally useful, can easily be interrupted by CC. He will also often be counterpicked in the top lane, and players should be wary of locking in the Rune Mage blind. In the end, there are significantly better AP top laners that can fulfill his role.

Yasuo

Yasuo may offer high mobility and excel at wave clear, but these traits will not compensate for his poor showing in the top lane. Since he is squishy in the early game, he will have a hard time in most matchups. Like Ryze, he also has a high skill cap. Players will have to master the champion if they hope to accomplish anything in the top lane. Yasuo also struggles when it comes to carrying games solo, which can make it hard for players surrounded by a struggling team. Lastly, he has no escape abilities, and players must rely on minions to outplay their opponents.

Yone

A burst assassin much like his brother, Yasuo, Yone is difficult to play and hard to master. There are a variety of ability sequences that players must learn, and those who are first learning the champion will find it challenging to pull off these combos for some time. Like Yasuo, he suffers from being squishy and can be easily locked down by CC. Most top lane champions will counter Yone and he will often struggle during 1v1 encounters. Players have a wide variety of other champions to choose from that will fulfill his role to a greater extent. If you are considering playing Yone, you are better off playing him in the mid lane.

Dr. Mundo

Locking in Dr. Mundo is usually a safe bet, as he can be blind-picked, but he is ultimately a bad top lane champion. He can be a huge tank due to his health regeneration capabilities, but he is quite weak and squishy in the early game. Mundo also lacks CC and is hard to engage with, which is something that top lane champions should usually excel in. When under threat, Mundo players will find that they have no escape options, aside from the bonus movement speed provided by his ability, Sadism. Since he falls off when behind, players have to be careful when playing the early game, which is when he is weakest and squishiest. In the end, Mundo lacks playmaking potential and will struggle against most other top laners.

Rengar

Rengar is matchup dependent, and he will either excel or be useless. It all comes down to which champion the opposing top laner picks. Most of the time, Rengar will be counter picked, as he suffers from a big number of tough match-ups which will ensure that he does not accomplish anything in lane. Since he excels in the early game and can be oppressive, he will often be the focus of ganks by enemy junglers or mid laners. To deal with Rengar, enemies will often opt for Bramble Vest, which is his worst nightmare. He is extremely reliant on performing well in the laning phase, and based on his top lane weaknesses, he will most likely fail to capitalize on his early game prowess.
