Black Ops Cold War Versions: Which to Get?

Black Ops Cold War versions cover the bases for players of all platforms ready for the launch of the latest Call of Duty on Nov. 13.

For starters, there are three Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War editions available for pre-order, and on console, a current-gen and next-gen version of the game.

Black Ops Cold War Versions: Which to Get?

The Standard Edition runs for $59.99, and comes with the digital or physical version of the game for PS4 or Xbox One, or the digital version for PC. Additionally, it's packaged with some extra goodies that all editions include in the Woods Operator Pack and the Confrontation Weapons Pack.

While for PC players, this edition is the one complete version of the game, console players will also need to consider upgrading their pre-order edition to get the next-gen version, which supports higher frame rates, ray-tracing, shorter load times, and more.

Here's where console loyalty comes into play as both current-gen Standard Edition versions (PS4 and Xbox One) will be playable on their respective next-gen console via backwards compatibility—except without any of the next-generation features. Additionally, the PS4 version will have the option to upgrade to the PS5 version, and the Xbox One version will have the option to upgrade to Xbox Series X|S version through their respective first-party stores.

For those set on playing the next-gen version however, there is the Next-Gen Physical Standard Edition (requires disc tray) and the digital Cross-Gen Bundle, each starting at $69.99. Both of these editions include the Woods Operator Pack and the Confrontation Weapons Pack, however, the digital Cross-Gen Bundle also includes the versions for both console generations within the same console family (PS4 and PS5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S).

Lastly, there is the digital Ultimate Edition for $89.99. This edition includes the versions for both console generations within the same console family, or simply the PC version. In addition to the Woods Operator Pack and the Confrontation Weapons Pack however, it also includes the Battle Pass Bundle (One Season Battle Pass and 20 Tier Skips in Black Ops Cold War) and the Land, Sea and Air Pack.
