Grass-Type Pokémon Weakness and Resistances

One of the three typical types for your starter Pokémon whenever you begin a new Pokémon adventure, Grass-type Pokémon are often the first Pokémon you'll add to your party. Additionally, because of their presence as a starter and frequency, you'll find them on routes, there are many memorable Grass-types like Bulbasaur, Treecko, and many many more.

What is a Grass-Type Pokémon?

Grass-type Pokémon are some of the most common Pokémon you'll encounter in any game because they are often modeled after wildlife and nature. Given the amount of time you spend walking outside in grassy or forested areas in Pokémon games, it makes sense you'll encounter so many of these nature-themed Pokémon.

Grass-Type Pokémon Weaknesses

Grass-type Pokémon can often be glass cannons, meaning while they can pack a punch in the right situation, you have to watch out for what Pokémon you keep your own Grass-type in against or you may find yourself in some trouble. Grass-type Pokémon have a whopping five different type weaknesses they take super-effective damage against. If you have a Grass-type on your team, watch out for Poison, Flying, Bug, Fire, and Ice-type Pokémon and attacks coming your way.

Grass-Type Pokémon Strengths and Resistances

Despite the many weaknesses, Grass-types can serve as useful counters or walls to a wide variety of types as well. Grass-type moves deal super-effective damage to three of the most common types of Pokémon in the game Rock, Ground, and Water-types. Additionally, many Grass-types have the Chlorophyll ability, which doubles their speed in sunny weather, allowing them to counter some Fire-type Pokémon looking to use the sunny weather for themselves. Defensively, Grass-types are really good against other Grass-types in addition to Water, Ground, and Electric-type attacks. Offensively, you yourself may run into some issues trying to attack any of the following types: Fire, Bug, Grass, Flying, Poison, Steel, and Dragon-type Pokémon. Seven different types is a lot of types that are resistant to Grass moves, so making sure you know when to use your Grass-type is key.

Best Counters for Grass-Type Pokémon

The best and easiest counter to a Grass-type Pokémon is a Fire-type, as the type matchup is favorable across the board, and you can obtain one as your starter. However if you like to use a different starter and need to come up with a good strategy to take down Grass-types, Bug and Flying-type Pokémon will be readily available and strong against any Grass-type Pokémon you face.
