In the House of Hades, there are a few places players will want to check to make sure Zagreus is as powerful as possible in his next run. One is the Mirror of Night, which allows Zagreus to upgrade his powers. The other is the House Contractor, which sells useful upgrades that make changes to the Underworld.

Around 13 minutes into the House of Hades Guide video above, YouTuber Jawless Paul gives a breakdown of the extensive House Contractor rewards. In addition, here are some good tips for beginners:

• Focus on functional upgrades instead of cosmetic ones

The House Contractor's massive list of upgrades can be overwhelming to new players. To simplify it — a majority of the upgrades will do nothing for your future ones. Most of what the House Contractor sells are cosmetic upgrades for the House of Hades that can be purchased with Gemstones. You'll want to focus on Underworld renovations will provide helpful new tools in future runs — like unlocking the Rod of Fishing which allows you to fish for rewards during each run.

• Avoid Gemstones once you've bought all the functional upgrades you can with them

Early in the game, the House Contractor offers some functional upgrades that can be bought with Gemstones. After that, most can only be purchased with Diamonds, which are a lot harder to come by. This makes it an easy choice whenever Gemstones pop up as one of the multiple path options within a run because you might as well skip them (unless you intend to focus on decorating the House of Hades).

• Maximize Diamond rewards with the Pact of Punishment

Once you've successfully made an escape from the Underworld, you'll unlock the Pact of Punishment. This will allow you to institute difficulty modifiers that apply scaling levels of "Heat." Each weapon has new rewards for completing a run with it, and for every subsequent Heat run after the first clear.

So, if you're hunting for Diamond after completing your first escape, there are a couple of ways to get more Diamonds quickly. The easiest method would be to go get your first clear with each other weapon, which is technically the least difficult way. If you're not confident with other weapons, though, you could attempt Heat 1 with that weapon and get your Diamond reward.

Once you've got the exclusive reward for each Underworld boss on each Heat level, you will only receive less-rare rewards for beating them again until you turn up the Heat.
