How to build a bridge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the first things on players' minds.

Animal Crossing players love customization—and that's something Nintendo has entirely delivered on. New Horizons is the first game of its kind to let you customize everything. Yes, we do mean absolutely everything including the very island you're standing on. Terra-forming, building placement, accessibility and more are at your fingertips.

The first bridge you'll ever build comes from everyone's favorite raccoon, Tom Nook. This interaction typically occurs between the time you get your next three villagers and when the Resident Services tent upgrades into a building.

Nook will prompt you into island expansion and give you a "Bridge Construction Kit" of which log stakes are a big part. This is essentially bridge training and lets the player know which areas are okay to construct on and which aren't.

Successfully placing the bridge will lead to it being built overnight and allowing your villagers to roam a previously unavailable part of the island. After this, however, bridge building becomes a lot more complicated.

You'll have to wait until Nook has upgraded the Resident Services building to start building more bridges. Approach his Construction counter and select the infrastructure option, select "Bridges and Inclines," and then that you want to build a bridge. This should bring up a new menu.

The next menu you'll see contains all the bridges you can build with their price tag attached. Some more complicated designs will cost more. Don't worry, you won't have to pay it all at once. Simply select the option you want and go place the plan over your selected river.

New Leaf players should be familiar with this mechanic. Now that your plan is placed, its up to you and your villagers to donate toward the project. You should notice Lloid standing beside your roped off lot, gyrating as you approach him. Lloid will take your donations and keep track of how much you have yet to pay off.

Your villagers will make donations, as well, but certainly nowhere near the amount you'll likely put in.

Once your bridge is paid off, construction will begin and be completed the following day.
