The League of Legends top lane tier list had some big changes after nerfs to Sett and Ornn in League of Legends Patch 10.5.

But knowing the viable top laners from the weak ones can be the difference between winning and losing a game. Here are some of the best and the worst top laners on Patch 10.5.

League of Legends Top Lane Tier List: Best Top Laners as of Patch 10.5

League of Legends S Tier Top Laners

  • Sett
  • Ornn
  • Darius
  • Kled
  • Sona

Even though Sett and Ornn will be getting nerfs on Patch 10.5, the dynamic duo will still be some of the best champions in top lane. With the buffs to Tiamat, Ravenous Hydra, and Titanic Hydra, Sett will now have access to a new path of itemization, with Kled and Darius both benefitting from it. The reversion of previous Sona nerfs should propel the champion back into the 60 percent win rate bracket that she used to sit in on Patch 10.3.

League of Legends A Tier Top Laners

  • Janna
  • Shen
  • Mordekaiser
  • Maokai
  • Fiora
  • Vladimir
  • Poppy
  • Cassiopeia

Although these top laners are not the most overpowered options, each of these picks has the potential to carry a game and effect the game early enough to avoid a snowball loss. Maokai and Poppy both received buffs on recent patches due to the buffs to Sunfire Cape, which should help them succeed in any role they're played in. Even Team SoloMid pulled out a Maokai pick in professional play, that's how strong the champion is right now.

League of Legends B Tier Top Laners

  • Tryndamere
  • Jax
  • Riven
  • Sion
  • Diana
  • Garen
  • Olaf
  • Rengar
  • Pantheon
  • Lulu
  • Kayle
  • Hecarim
  • Camille
  • Illaoi
  • Urgot
  • Aatrox
  • Rumble
  • Swain

Each of these top laners are viable picks, with some champions being more match up dependent than others. For instance, Kayle, Rengar, and Hecarim are all very conditional on having the right lane opponent and having the mechanics necessary to navigate the laning phase into better or stronger champions.

Some champions here, like Aatrox, would also be in a higher tier if the person playing the champion had incredibly good mechanics. But given the mechanical disparity between the best players and average players, he's a slightly lower tier option.

League of Legends C Tier Top Laners

  • Cho'Gath
  • Volibear
  • Dr. Mundo
  • Gangplank
  • Yorick
  • Malphite
  • Quinn
  • Singed
  • Talon
  • Soraka
  • Renekton
  • Nasus
  • Neeko
  • Warwick
  • Yasuo
  • Vayne
  • Qiyana
  • Tahm Kench

Most of the champions in the C tier are okay champions that are strong into certain picks. For example, Vayne is occasionally a strong answer to Ornn or other tank top laners like Maokai. But the majority of the time, you should avoid these champions unless you're familiar with them and their match ups into champions in the B, A, and S tiers.

League of Legends D Tier Top Laners

  • Viktor
  • Kennen
  • Tristana
  • Sylas
  • Irelia
  • Akali
  • Gragas
  • Gnar
  • Lissandra
  • Amumu
  • Trundle
  • Udyr
  • Rammus
  • Galio
  • Lucian
  • Jayce
  • Ryze

Most of the champions on this list should be avoided at all costs. Due to either the champion's kit or itemization, each of these champions lacks the utility, damage, and crowd control necessary to be a viable top laner. Some of these champions have even received buffs recently, with Gnar, Trundle, and Lissandra being some of the most prominent.
