Nintendo's video game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Illumination's CEO, Chris Meledandri, gave exciting news yesterday. March 10th is Mario Day, and both prominent figures released a presentation to celebrate our favorite plumber. Here's what fans can expect in the upcoming years.

First, a new Super Mario Bros. movie is in development! It's meant to be a continuation of The Super Mario Bros. Movie released in April 2023. The sequel, which doesn't have a name yet, is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2026, in the U.S. and other markets globally. The movie will also be released in some other territories throughout April.

The same animation studio (Illuminations) and directors (Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic) will be working on the second film. We have yet to find out what it's about, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie implied Yoshi will appear in the sequel.

Fans aren't only getting a new Mario movie. Two Mario remakes and three Game Boy titles are also coming to the Nintendo Switch.
