Modern Warfare 2 'Dark Water' Campaign Gameplay Trailer Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2022

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II "Dark Water Level Gameplay" trailer was released during the Summer Game Fest showcase event, giving fans their true first look at the highly anticipated title's campaign experience.

Nearly eight minutes of gameplay is revealed in the footage all taking place in Operation Dark Water, a Campaign mission set to debut in Modern Warfare 2.

The mission is set off thanks to Task Force 141 finding intel that shows missiles hidden on board an offshore platform. Task Force 141 and Shadow Company are thus tasked with boarding the platform, clearing out hostile forces and disarming the missile, all without even knowing for sure whether or not their intel is good or if the missile even exists.

Shipped out to sea, a team of Soap, Ghost, and Mexican Special Forces Operator Alejandro battle heavy weather conditions long before they face their enemy.

The POV followed in this mission is that of Soap, who we see falls in line as the squad rappels up the rig and begins clearing out the enemies in the bottom office and catwalks.

Here is where players can truly get their first glimpse of the Modern Warfare (2019) engine being brought back to the spotlight in this upcoming game.

Throughout the rest of the trailer, a handful of unnamed guns and attachments are displayed.

Perhaps the most impressive detail to take note of, however, is the sound design, which plays a key role in this mission thanks to the sheer amount of weather and environmental events that take place.

"This is just one example of how Campaign missions will be more dynamic and lifelike," Activision's developer blog post reads, "something that the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare began to innovate on compared to previous games. Not only will players have to contend with enemy forces, but they may also have to deal with the elements, such as going underwater to stealth around enemy territory."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to release worldwide on Oct. 28, 2022.
