Our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II SMG tier list is here to break down which of the guns are the best to use as players begin to dive into the new title's multiplayer for the first time.

It's week one with Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer officially here and needless to say, players are already trying to figure out what the best guns to use are. So far, there are 51 different weapons to use, including eight assault rifles, four battle rifles, eight SMGs, four shotguns, six LMGs, six marksman rifles, four sniper rifles, five pistols, four launchers, and two melee weapons. Here is a breakdown of the best SMGs to use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 early on at launch.

Modern Warfare 2 SMG Tier List

S Tier

  • Vaznev-9K
  • Lachmann Sub

At the top of the list are the Vaznev-9K and Lachmann Sub, which have been dominating lobbies so far. The Lachmann Sub has retained its meta-defining form from the beta, while the Vaznev-9K has quickly become the go-to weapon within the competitive COD community.

A Tier

  • PDSW 528
  • Fennec 45
  • FSS Hurricane
  • Minibak
  • VEL 46

In the A Tier are five SMGs that are viable, but are not quite as well-rounded as the two above. The PDSW 528, FSS Hurricane and Minibak all come with superb stock magazines but lack any medium-to-long range cheese potential. The Fennec 45 hits hard, but like its counterparts from previous COD titles, burns through ammo extremely fast and is sluggish when adding on magazine attachments. Lastly, the VEL 46 is a solid short-range option, with good mobility and a competitive fire rate.

B Tier

  • MX9

Alone in the B Tier is the MX9 which, unfortunately, does appear to be in need of some buffs already. Not only does it deal the least amount of damage in the weapon class, but it also has the smallest magazine sizes, making it the clear worst SMG in the game at the moment.
