Want to start building your own Secret Base? Here's what you need to know.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has brought with it some major changes and improvements to the Grand Underground. This cave system now stretches and conforms to the entire shape of Sinnoh, splitting up huge chunks of areas to explore. Thankfully, though, amongst all of the changes, Secret Bases have returned.

These bases are slightly different this time around, though getting one of your own might take a bit of working out. Fortunately, we've detailed everything you need to know about building a Secret Base.

There are a few steps that you'll need to take in order to build your Secret Base. First, you'll need to have spoken to the Underground Man in Eterna City. Follow his challenges and then return to the city to talk to him. Eventually, he'll present you with a Digger Drill.

The Underground Man will task you, once again, with going into the Grand Underground. This time, you'll need to pick out a spot in the wall, select your Digger Drill, and carve out a hole for your Secret Base. The Digger Drill is a single-use item, however. Be sure of your location as you'll need another Digger Drill if you plan to move your base later on.

Once the hole has been carved, enter into your newly crafted Secret Base. Here, you'll be able to decorate with pedestals and statues. Statues can be found in the Digging Minigame, accessed via shiny points seen on the Grand Underground map.

Adding statues of specific Pokémon types will slightly increase the chances of that type appearing in hideaways. This "Statue Effect" is indicated by the orb place next to the entrance of the player's base.
