Pokémon GO Cliff February 2023: How to Beat

Niantic, Pokémon Company

Team Rocket GO Leader, Cliff, is back this February for players to challenge with some new Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

Defeating a Team Rocket GO Leader allows players to either purify their Shadow Pokémon for a bigger CP of the purified Pokémon, or keep their Shadow Pokémon for a modified moveset. In addition, trainers can get 1000 Stardust for winning the battle.

We've compiled some of the best Pokémon to bring to the fight against each of Cliff's potential six Pokémon he can bring to the fight besides his Shadow Magnemite.

Pokémon GO Cliff February 2023: How to Beat

First Pokémon: Magnemite

Magnemite is an Electric- and Steel-type Pokémon with weaknesses to both Fire- and Ground-type moves. Since both of Magnemite's typings are weak to Ground-types, it is best to primarily use these types to handle this first Pokémon.

  • Excadrill - Mud Shot and Drill Run
  • Garchomp - Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Flygon - Mud Shot and Earth Power

Second Pokémon: Omastar, Pinsir, or Venusaur

For the second Pokémon, Cliff will either send out an Omastar, Pinsir, or Venusaur. Omastar is a Rock- and Water-type Pokémon with a very strong disadvantage towards Grass-type Pokémon. Pinsir, a Bug-type, and Venusaur, a Grass- and Poison-type, are both weak to Fire-type moves, but Venusaur's additional poison typing may make a Psychic-type Pokémon more effective.

  • Omastar Counter: Roserade - Razor Leaf and Grass Knot
  • Pinsir Counter: Chandelure - Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Venusaur Counter: Espeon - Confusion and Psychic

Final Pokémon: Camerupt, Sharpedo, or Tyranitar

For the final Pokémon, Cliff will send out one of these strong Pokémon; Camerupt, a Fire- and Ground-type, Sharpedo, a Water- and Dark-type, or Tyranitar, a Rock- and Dark-type. Both Tyranitar and Sharpedo share a Fighting-type weakness, so bringing a strong Fighting Pokémon will be your best bet for those two, but for Camerupt, bringing a water Pokémon will handle it swiftly.

  • Camerupt Counter: Swampert - Water Gun and Hydro Pump
  • Sharpedo Counter: Lucario - Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Tyranitar Counter: Machamp - Counter and Dynamic Punch
