Pokémon GO Giovanni February 2023: How to Beat

Niantic, Pokémon Company

Giovanni, the Team Rocket GO Boss, is back with difficult Pokémon to face this February in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO players can face Giovanni after defeating the three Team Rocket GO Leaders; Cliff, Arlo and Sierra. Defeating them will unlock a Special Research Task, giving players access to the Giovanni fight.

Giovanni's staple Persian will be on the team, joined by either a Cloyster, Tyranitar, or Garchomp as his second Pokémon, and he caps his team off with a Registeel. Here are some Pokémon that can be used in the fight against Giovanni to ensure a victory.

Pokémon GO Giovanni February 2023: How to Beat

As mentioned before, two Pokémon will be the same for every player facing Giovanni in February; Persian and Registeel, what will vary is his second Pokémon, but here are some suggestions for Pokémon to bring to combat each of these five Pokémon.

First Pokémon: Persian

Persian is a Normal-type Pokémon, meaning it will be weak to Fighting-types and Fighting-types only. Luckily enough, both of these types are easily found throughout one's journey, but here are Fighting-types that pack a punch.

  • Lucario - Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Breloom - Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Conkeldurr - Counter and Dynamic Punch

Second Pokémon: Cloyster, Garchomp, or Nidoking

For Giovanni's second Pokémon, he will send out either Cloyster, a Water- and Ice-type, a Garchomp, a Dragon- and Ground-type, or Nidoking, a Poison- and Ground-type. Cloyster can be defeated with either Electric-, Fighting- or Grass-type Pokémon, Garchomp with Ice-types doing the most damage, and Nidoking being taken down with Psychic-types.

  • Cloyster Counter: Lucario - Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Garchomp Counter: Galarian Darmanitan - Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Nidoking Counter: Alakazam - Confusion and Psychic

Final Pokémon: Registeel

Registeel is a pure Steel-type Pokémon that is incredibly strong, so it makes sense that it is Giovanni's final Pokémon. It can be taken down with Fire-, Fighting-, or Ground-type Pokémon, and here are some of the best Pokémon for fighting it.

  • Camerupt - Incinerate and Earthquake
  • Blaziken - Fire Spin and Focus Blast
  • Darmanitan - Fire Fang and Focus Blast
