PUBG Labs Revealed as Way for Players to Test In-Development Features

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS now has a new method of allowing players to test out various experimental settings, features, and modes that are currently in development. This system, called PUBG Labs, was unveiled on Tuesday by PUBG Corp. The new feature can be accessed in the live client of PUBG and can be accessed on the main menu above the usual "Start" button.

The PUBG team has clarified that PUBG Labs will not be replacing the already existing Test Server, which will continue to be used for normal content updates. PUBG Labs will be used for more experimental settings and features and will allow for players to participate in the tests on the game's live servers and give feedback to the developers.

With the announcement for PUBG Labs, the team has also revealed the first feature to be tested, which is Skill Based Ratings. According to the blog, Skill Based Ratings is meant to provide a ladder-type rating system to more competitive players that want to be measured based on individual skill and not time invested, which is currently measured in the Survival Title System.

Skill Based Ratings is optional, with players having the ability to choose if they want to participate in the experiment by opting-in in the Labs tabs on the main menu. Once you opt in, you will receive your initial rating after playing five placement matches, as well as placed into a tier. (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, or Master).

RP, the skill points being used to measure Skill Based Ratings, is based on your placement in the match, the amount of kills you got, and your rating compared to everyone in the match.

Players will be able to provide feedback on their RP changes after matches. A one-week grace period after the initial Skill Based Ratings experiment will also be given in which to see your final ratings in that period and provide extra feedback. The rating players receive while the feature is being tested in PUBG Labs will not carry over when it is fully implemented into the game.
