The Ascent CPU Performance Mode: What Does it Do?

An update for The Ascent has arrived, adding a CPU Performance Mode for players with lower-end PCs: but what does it do?

The game received an update on Aug. 6, focusing on tackling a wide variety of bugs and glitches while also aiming to improve the overall experience of the game. According to the update changelog for PC players, issues such as to save corruption issues and gameplay errors were addressed, but there was one particular addition that has most players on lower-end PCs talking: CPU Performance Mode.

The Ascent CPU Performance Mode: What Does it Do?

Generally, high-performance modes in games for low-end computers sacrifice graphic quality and disable any extra graphics in favor for high, stable FPS counts, as visual speed is often one of the highest priorities for a pleasant gaming experience. Most PC players typically don’t have to use it if they’re running a middle-end computer, but the option exists for those who aren’t up-to-par with the status quo.

For a game as graphically intensive as The Ascent, with all the detail put into the graphics and lighting, it’s a nice alternative for low-end users instead of having to upgrade to fully enjoy the game, only at the cost of graphics that will ultimately still allow for a good gameplay experience.

It’s worth noting that the changelog does not specifically address what the CPU Performance Mode does exactly for the game, but if it’s anything similar to what other games have done, it’s reasonable to infer that The Ascent follows suit.

CPU Performance Mode is now available to use in PC versions of The Ascent.
