Iron Gate Studios released a new update for Valheim today, March 23, which included better network handling and changes to trophy drops, item interactions, damage, and more.

The update was released on Steam and had its patch notes uploaded to the game's Steam News section. Before launching into the new tweaks, the team encouraged fans to make sure their Steam platform software was up to date—with a brief explanation of how to check. They acknowledged this post was a long one with "lots of big and small changes in this patch, some gameplay tweaks, and some bug fixes."

One of the most important takeaways was the change to the way players can toggle console commands. Instead of the phrase, "imacheater," players now simply have to type in "devcommands." This will also prompt a warning message so players understand what they're getting into.

On top of this, there are a few important changes that may affect how players interact with the world. These include:

  • Campfire, bonfire & hearth take damage when dealing damage
  • All boss drops can now float on water
  • 1 & 2 Star creature HP fix
  • Night-spawning wolves should be easier to tame now (should stop trying to run away & despawn after starting to tame)
  • Harpoon does not work on bosses anymore
  • Improved enemy projectile reaction system
  • Battle axe tweaks (hits multiple enemies easier)
  • Player knockback force is affected by equipment speed modifiers (IE heavy gear will reduce the knockback from enemies)
  • Ward system fixes (You can no longer place a new ward where an enemy ward overlaps)

Additionally, players can expect to run into some new quality of life changes. These will hopefully make adventuring that much easier, with tweaks such as:

  • Reinforced chest inventory space increased to 6x4
  • Sunken crypt entrance tweaked (to stop tombstones from getting stuck)
  • Deathsquito & Drake trophy drop rate increased
  • Blackforest stone tower tweaks
  • Comfort calculation fixed
  • Serpent trophy stack fix
  • Dolmen location fixes (Stop top stone from falling for no reason)
  • Added a slight use-delay on Hammer, Hoe & Cultivator
  • Hammer remove auto-repeat added
  • Megingjord item-collider fix
  • Missing Moder spawn location in some worlds fixed
  • Fixed removing item from item-stand not always syncing item stats

For our server-enthusiasts or those saddled with the responsibility of maintaining one for their friend group, Iron Gate has you covered with advancements to how the game treats servers, worlds, and connection. In short, Valheim will now cooperate better with low bandwidth connections and be able to detect a bad connection on its own. It will display a "failure to connect" message in this case.

Additionally, players no longer have to wait for the entire server list to load before they hit "refresh." They will also be able to rely on a steady, moderate stream of server messages instead of a slowly increasing one the longer they stay online.
